July 9-17 Fri /Sat 7pm Sun 2pm $10 all tickets Summer 2010 Classes June 21-25, daily 10am-2pm Musical Theatre FUNdamentals Teachers: Colleen Carpenter-Simmons & Jen Reif Ages: 7-13 Cost $180 Recommended for anyone wishing to sign up for the NEW “Summer Sensations” musical theatre performance camp for 7-13 year olds! Go beyond the traditional idea of a summer musical theatre camp and join Colleen Carpenter-Simmons and Jennifer Reif for a week of quick study explorations. This unique workshop is designed to challenge, develop and stimulate your skills with material from some of Broadway's greatest shows. This is a joyful, focused immersion into the world of singing, dancing and acting. At week’s end, plan to emerge at a new level! There will be an informal showcase on the last day of class. June 28-July 2, daily 10am-2pm American Girl: Meet Kit! Teacher: Patricia Haines-Ainsworth Ages: 7-13 Cost: $170 Do you love the American Girl Dolls? Then meet Kit Kittredge & her best friend, Ruthie. As a girl growing up during the Great Depression, Kit sees her dad lose his business overnight. To help save their home, the whole family becomes resourceful. With Ruthie by her side, Kit also learns to treasure what money can’t buy—friends and family. Through theatre games and crafts, students will learn about the history of America during the 1930’s and perform a short play on the final day of class. July 12-16, daily 10 am-12pm Mother Goose Teacher: Grant Knutson Ages: 4-7 Cost: $80 The nursery rhymes of Mother Goose help jump-start your child’s brain development-and they’re fun, too! This camp includes activities that build motor, social, and pre-literacy skills, incorporating rhymes, stories, music and dance. Students will learn how to play characters and even memorize lines in order to perform a short presentation for friends and family on the last day of class. July 19-23, Daily 10am-1pm Killer Kombat Teacher: James Lapan Ages: 9-12 Cost: $120 A safe way to learn what goes on behind the fight scenes that we see on stage! The focus of the class will be on hand-to-hand combat, falling, and reacting to “attacks” in a safe environment. Students will then put those skills to work by putting together a “fight scene” for a final presentation on the last day of camp! August 9-13, daily 10am-12pm IMPROVISE! Teacher: Pat Haines-Ainsworth Ages: 6-9 Cost: $80 Put your storytelling skills to the test as you learn to IMPROVISE! Improvisational theatre (improv) is spontaneous theatre with no scripts or prior planning. In this class, we'll play lots of fun games and work together to create theatre in the moment while thinking on our feet and using our imaginations to create fun characters! Our creations will be on display on the final day of class. Primarily for beginning improvisers. August 9-13, daily 1:00-4:00pm Improv Returns! Teacher: Derek Kavan Ages: 10-14 Cost: $100 Through fun theatre games, students will learn how to be spontaneous, how to think on their feet to create unique and crazy characters, and end up in hilarious and impossible scenarios. The results, complete with audience participation, will be on display on the final day of class. Perfect for beginning or continuing improv students! Aug 16-20, Daily 10am-2pm CANCELLED - The Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde - CANCELLED Teacher: Susanna Wilson Ages: 12-15 Cost: $170 These beautiful stories are suitable for adults as well as children. In Wilde’s perfect world, tolerance, humility, and natural love would lead to true individualism, regardless of whether the receiver of the gift will appreciate the sacrifice, as is the heartbreaking story of "The Nightingale And The Rose." The students take part in adapting and performing these beautiful, haunting stories, with a public performance on the last day of class. Aug 23-27 Daily 10am-2pm Just So Stories (musical play) Teachers: Kate Swenson and TBA Ages: 7-14 Cost: $180 Rudyard Kipling's stories are brought vividly to life by Kipling's young daughter, Elsie, and a group of new friends she has made during a visit with her aunt while her parents are away. The ending, which holds a surprise or two, is moving and uplifting as Elsie learns something about herself and her friends as well. The colorful characters will delight performers and audiences alike, with a performance on the final day of class. |
